    1. Butte Des Morts (herein “BDM”) captains - Trent Duerr and Connor O’Brien

    2. North Shore (herein “NS”) captains - Alex Coenen and Tom Klister

    3. Trent Duerr, Connor O’Brien, Alex Coenen and Tom Klister (herein “Captains”)

    4. Alternate captains may be approved by the Board of Directors with a unanimous vote.

    5. Two Captains from each club are required to play in the event.

  2. Governing rules

    1. The Appleton Ryder Cup (herin “ARC”) shall be governed by the rules of the USGA unless otherwise noted by the course or in this document. If there are discrepancies between the USGA rules and this document or the course’s rules, order of precedence is as follows:

      1. ARC rules

      2. Course rules

      3. USGA rules

    2. Board of Directors have final say in any disagreement regarding the rules.

  3. Teams

    1. Each Country Club, BDM and NS, shall field a team of at least four (4) club members.

    2. In the event that the Captains are unable to field a team of four (4) club members, a guest/substitute shall be allowed to play provided that the opposing Captains unanimously approve the guest/substitute.

  4. Handicaps

    1. All players must have a USGA handicap established before the start of the ARC.

    2. There is nothing more terrible and against the spirit of the ARC than providing a disingenuous handicap. All handicaps submitted should be the best representation of the golfers ability.

    3. Any player caught intentionally altering their handicap may be disqualified from and and/or all future ARC events at the sole discretion of the ARC Board of Directors.

  5. Competition Format

    1. Day 1: Prior Year Winning Club:

      1. Match 1: 18 holes, Alternate Shot, match play

        1. 1 point per side, 3 points for match win = 5pts total

        2. Handicap will be 50% of Player A’s handicap and 50% of Player B’s handicap

      2. Match 2: 9 holes, 2-man net best ball, match play

        1. 3 points for match win

        2. Each player plays their own ball and the net-lowest ball from each twosome on each hole is used to calculate the total score for the twosome.

    2. Day 2: Prior Year Losing Club

      1. Match 3: 18 holes, 2-man scramble, match play

        1. 1 point per side, 3 points for match win = 5pts total

        2. Pair handicaps will be calculated by taking 35% of Player A’s (the lower handicap player) handicap and 15% of Player B’s (the higher handicap player)  handicap rounded to the nearest .5.

          1. For example: Player A has a 4 handicap and Player B has a handicap of 10. The pair’s handicap is 2 ( 35% x 4 + 15% x 10 =1.9, rounded to 2 ).

    3. ARC winning team is determined by total score of points from the three (3) rounds of competition

    4. Each foursome shall consist of two members from each team.  The captains of each team must write the order in which their twosomes shall play (and which player will tee off on odd/even holes for alternate shot) prior to the start of the match and reveal it after both teams have set their lineup.

  6. Tie-Breakers

    1. If at the end of ARC the scores for both teams are tied, a playoff of the number of holes equal to each team’s number of golfers will be played to determine the winner. Each team will choose three (3) golf clubs to be used on the holes. The use of any other clubs on these holes will result in an immediate victory for the non-offending team. Each team member will play one of the holes. The low cumulative net total score from the playoff holes will determine the winner. If a tie persists after the playoff holes, a closest-to competition on the next Par 3 will determine the winner.

  7. Selection of ARC Dates

    1. Captains shall work in good faith to find a workable weekend preferably in the fall (September or October) of the year.

  8. Dues and Fees

    1. Each golfer shall be responsible for their own fees including guest and cart fees at the opposing team’s club

  9. Betting

    1. Required bets

      1. ARC Winner - the losing team shall pay $100 per player to the winning team

      2. Hole-in-one - a player who hits a “hole-in-one” during ARC play shall be paid $100.00 by every other player participating in the ARC.

      3. Required bets will be paid out at the end of the ARC.

    2. Non-required betting

      1. Non-required betting is encouraged.

      2. Written agreements shall be signed by the Captains for any team bets.

      3. Side bets between individuals shall not be monitored by the Captains.

  10. Winner’s Banquet

    1. On the Thursday before the start of the ARC, the prior year’s winning Captains will provide a banquet for current year’s competitors. A night of pageantry and splendor is expected.

    2. The prior year’s winners have the option to invite other guests to the banquet. Potential invitees shall include but not be limited to:

      1. seated US presidents,

      2. former US presidents,

      3. foreign dignitaries,

      4. PGA golfers,

      5. celebrities unanimously approved by the ARC Board,

      6. prior ARC players,

      7. spouses, and

      8. Instagram thots

  11. Merchandise and Apparel

    1. No merchandise and/or ARC apparel shall be produced without the prior unanimous approval of the Board of Directors.

    2. Team-specific merchandise is encouraged and only requires the approval of that team’s Captains.

  12. Bragging Rights

    1. For the period of time after the year’s ARC and before the start of the next Tournament, Captains of the winning team may request to be referred to as “Champion” or “Champ” by Captains of the losing team. Failure to call the winning Captains “Champion” or “Champ”, at the winning Captain’s request, means that all bets in the next ARC shall be placed at 1:2 odds against the losing team.

      1. Example, Player 1 is a Captain of the winning team and Player 3, a Captain of the losing team, refuses to call Player 1 “Champ” at Jim’s Place after being asked by Player 1 to do so. At the next ARC, Player 3’s team will only receive half pay-outs from bets, excluding the ARC winner bet, if Player 3’s team wins.

        1. Example: If each team wins one (1), five (5) dollar snake, Player 3’s team would pay $2.50 to Player 1’s team. ($5.00 - $5.00 (½) = $2.50).

  13. Television Rights and Other Monetization

    1. All decisions regarding television rights and any other monetization of the ARC shall be decided by unanimous decision of the Board of Directors.

  14. All Other

    1. The annual ARC tournament shall be governed by sole-discretion of the ARC Board of Directors.

    2. Any other items, including amendments to this document will be decided by unanimous decision of the ARC Board of Directors.

15. Retired Rules

  1. Required bets

    1. Snake - if a team three (3) putts, they shall have the “snake”. Each snake that is accumulated shall be worth $20.00 during scramble matches and $5.00 per non-scramble match (unless another amount is agreed upon, by unanimous consent of the Captains, prior to the start of that year’s ARC). At the end of each round, and the end of the tournament, each member on the team with the “snake” (the losing team) shall pay to the “non-snake” team (the winning team) $20.00 per snake accumulated throughout the scramble matches and $5.00 per snake during the non-scramble matches  during the ARC.

    2. Closest to - each Par 3 shall have a “closest-to” bet.  The team whose player hits the ball on the green closest to the pin will be the winning team and each member of this team will be paid $20.00 by a member losing team.

    3. Required bets will be paid out at the end of the ARC.

  2. Format

    1. Day 1: Prior Year Loser’s Club: 2-man net scramble, match play

      1. 1 pt per hole, 1 pt per front and back nine, 1 pt total = 21 pts available per twosome

    2. Day 2: Prior Year Winner’s Club:

      1. 18 holes, 2-man, net best ball, match play

        1. 1 pt per hole, 1 pt total = 10 pts available per twosome
